Job description

Client: CNH (Case New Holland Industrial)

Position Type: Technical Lab Operations

Position Overview

Are you a detail-oriented lab professional with a passion for materials testing, color precision, and industrial coatings? We are seeking a Paint Laboratory Technician to join our engineering team in New Holland, PA.

In this hands-on laboratory role, you will work directly alongside our Paint Specialist to execute technical coatings validation, manage brand color development programs (including Dynamic Blue and SSP), and run environmental simulation testing. You will bridge the gap between physical laboratory verification and supplier tracking to ensure our heavy machinery coatings meet rugged field durability and aesthetic compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute Paint Testing: Perform routine evaluations on prepared panels and samples for color accuracy, specular gloss, cross-hatch adhesion, and overall coating performance attributes.
  • Operate Environmental Chambers: Set up and run specialized laboratory testing equipment under directed procedures, including color spectrophotometers, Weather-Ometers (WOM), cyclic corrosion chambers, humidity cabinets, and water immersion tanks.
  • Data Log & Track Metrics: Accurately record, organize, and enter technical test matrix parameters and material performance variations into laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and project files.
  • Supplier Coordination: Actively monitor incoming color standard requests, manage the testing queue, and follow up directly with coating suppliers to secure lead times for submitted chemistry samples.
  • Cross-Functional Tracking: Monitor ongoing aging/exposure tests, document abnormalities or coating deviations, and generate weekly status dashboards for cross-functional engineering groups.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (equivalent hands-on industrial laboratory experience will be highly considered).
  • Core Competencies: Practical understanding of physical lab testing protocols, sample preparation, and wet chemistry or material handling workflows.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong organizational skills with a disciplined approach to recording quantitative data, generating test reports, and maintaining asset calibration records.
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written communication habits, with the natural ability to draft standardized instruction sheets and hold vendors accountable to project deadlines.
Preferred Skills
  • Prior laboratory experience validating industrial, agricultural, or automotive-grade paints, enamels, or protective finishes.
  • Familiarity with spectrophotometric color measurements (L*a*b* color space coordinates) and gloss meters.
  • Background running accelerated life-cycle weathering tests (Salt spray, ASTM corrosion curves, thermal baking ovens).
