Job summary

New Flyer, based in Anniston, AL, is seeking a Paint Assistant for the 1st shift to support the paint department in preparing coaches for coatings and finishes. This role involves masking, priming, and applying top coats under supervision, with emphasis on safety and quality.

The ideal candidate will learn surface prep techniques, operate sanding and buffing tools, and collaborate with painters and supervisors to maintain high finish standards on heavy-duty buses.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in paint production is preferred but not mandatory.
• Able to read and follow basic measurements and instructions.
• Capable of teamwork and effective communication.
• Must stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks for a 10‑hour shift.
• Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for painting tasks.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety guidelines and wear PPE.
• Prepare shells and components for painting using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Gain knowledge and expertise in preparing surfaces for priming and painting.
• Acquire familiarity with equipment and develop skills for surface preparation.
• Become well-versed in materials needed for surface prep and painting.
• Prepare and mask the bus shell to prevent overspray.
• Collaborate closely with painters and management to understand quality standards.
• Perform touch-ups and buffing on painted surfaces.
