Job summary

Magnit Direct Source, on behalf of Toyota, seeks an Engineer - Paint Materials for a 12-month contract in Georgetown, KY. The role focuses on evaluating new color paints, materials, and cost-saving initiatives across paint labs and production lines.

Responsibilities include leading color/material introductions, establishing material controls, solving material-related issues, and assessing environmental impacts while partnering with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, etc.
  • Proficient summarizing data and creating charts in Excel, building presentations in PowerPoint.
  • Experience leading multiple projects that required coordination with people outside your immediate team (other departments, vendors or external groups).
  • Experienced in analyzing data to identify the true root cause of a problem in addition to implementing countermeasures.
  • Experience creating and presenting reports to multiple levels of management.
  • 1+ year evaluating color and appearance of painted surfaces.
  • 1+ years of experience in paint lab doing workability evaluations.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and shutdown periods to support projects.
  • Ability to travel (up to 30%) to support NAMC competitiveness.
  • TBP completed through panel
  • Served as SME or internal auditor for North American QR/QS/QH process
  • Project experience within Paint Pilot function
  • Basic Japanese language skills
  • Basic Spanish language skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead new color & material introductions to all facilities (body & resin paint) from lab workability through online testing and production approval, including trial planning, quality evaluations, and direction setting recommendations – primary focus on paint & resin shops.
  • Establish process controls and parameters for new materials/technologies and gain one-voice among cross-functional teams
  • Lead materials-related problem solving across multiple divisions; applying TBP methods to identify root-cause and countermeasures
  • Support and assess CPU and Environmental impacts of new materials; quantify cost/benefit and lead decision-making with stakeholders
  • Support Paint department Hoshin objectives.
