Job summary

The Office of the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury invites rising juniors, seniors, or graduate accounting students to apply for the Financial Audit Intern-Local Government Audit, West, a 10-week paid internship for Summer 2027 (June 1 – August 6).

Students will gain hands-on experience auditing local government entities, receive audit-specific training, and participate in professional development activities, networking, and a final presentation of their learnings.

Qualifications

• Successfully completed at least 6 credit hours of accounting coursework.
• Preference for intermediate or advanced accounting classes.
• Adaptable, able to think critically, and work well individually or on a team.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, organizational, and writing skills.
• Apply classroom knowledge to meaningful audit work.

Responsibilities

• Learn to examine and review records, reports, financial statements, and management practices for local government entities.
• Assist in evaluating fairness of financial statements, internal controls, efficiency of operations, and compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements.
• Participate in professional development activities and team-based projects.
