Job summary

Hurt & Proffitt is inviting candidates for Civil Engineering Intern positions in Blacksburg, VA for Summer 2027. The roles offer hands-on experience across water resources, land development, transportation, and general civil design in a professional consulting environment.

Interns will work with senior engineers and designers, gaining practical skills and exposure to real projects while developing technical and professional capabilities in a collaborative setting.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers and designers with civil engineering and design projects.
• Gain exposure to land development, water resources, transportation, and other areas of civil engineering.
• Assist with preparation of engineering plans, details, and technical documents.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and research under the direction of experienced staff.
• Assist with field visits, site inspections, and data collection.
• Learn and utilize engineering design software and technology.
• Assist with drafting and plan production.
• Participate in project meetings and collaborate with other members of the project team.
