Job summary

The Missoula Housing Authority offers a paid Accounts Payable internship for a student or early-career professional seeking hands-on accounting experience. Work with the Finance team on the full invoice-to-payment cycle, gaining exposure to public sector finance and audits.

Initial in-person training occurs at the MHA office, with potential for a hybrid schedule based on performance and department needs. 15 hours/week, Mon–Fri, 8:00–5:00.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed coursework in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
• Master's degree in Accounting (preferred) is noted as advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Review, code, and enter vendor invoices into the accounting system.
• Match invoices to purchase orders and supporting documentation, and route invoices for approval.
• Assist with preparing check runs and electronic payments under staff supervision.
• Maintain vendor records, including collecting and filing W-9 forms.
• Respond to routine vendor inquiries and help research and resolve invoice discrepancies.
• Assist with reconciling vendor statements.
• Scan, file, and organize accounts payable records in accordance with MHA records retention practices.
• Support year-end 1099 preparation, month-end close, and audit requests as assigned.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
