Job summary

The San Diego Natural History Museum invites undergraduates to join its Paleontology Department as a part-time, temporary intern. The internship focuses on fossil identification, curation, and collection management within the Jacobs Center for Science and Conservation.

Responsibilities include curation tasks, data entry into the museum database, specimen photography, and contributing to inventory efforts while learning from a dedicated paleontology team.

Qualifications

• Interest in natural history, paleontology, and/or geology
• Technology skills

Responsibilities

• Microscopic picking of wet-screened sediment concentrates for micro-invertebrate and micro-vertebrate fossils
• General sorting and taxonomic identification of invertebrate and vertebrate fossils
• Organizing fossils into species lots and placing in archival trays/vials/capsules
• Entering or updating collection locality and specimen data into the SDNHM Paleontology Collection Database
• Photographing specimens for curation and research purposes
• Participating in inventory and reorganization of the Paleontology Collection
