Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO is offering a Winter Nurse Externship for nursing students. The program provides hands-on clinical learning under the supervision of an RN, with opportunities to rotate through multiple units and learn essential care skills.

This paid externship runs a 4-week session at 36 hours per week, with shifts of 12 hours. Applicants must be advancing in nursing school, have a Basic Life Support certification, and meet physical requirements.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least 2 semesters of nursing school, including at least one round of clinicals.
• Provide transcripts indicating Fundamentals of Nursing from an accredited program and a competency skills list.
• High school diploma or GED and enrollment in an approved nursing program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum physical requirements: lift 50 pounds, stand and walk long shifts, bend/kneel/twist/squat.

Responsibilities

• Assist in individualized patient care under RN supervision.
• Rotate through units to gain hands-on nursing experience.
• Support direct and indirect patient care in Acute Care settings.
• Learn and practice skills including IV therapy, Foley care, NG care, tube feeding, ostomy care, phlebotomy, dressing changes, trach care, and head-to-toe assessments.
