Job summary

The Risk & Underwriting Summer Internship Program at Cigna offers hands-on underwriting experience, data analysis in Excel, and exposure to pricing decisions. You’ll work on live risk cases, learn from mentors, and present insights to the team.

Based in Franklin, TN or Scottsdale, AZ, the program emphasizes collaboration, professional development, and a hybrid schedule with three onsite days per week.

Qualifications

• Currently progressing toward a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and has completed 3 years in a preferred major/minor such as Risk Management, Insurance, Business, Economics, Finance, Management, Mathematics, or Healthcare.
• Strong analytical aptitude and comfort applying quantitative reasoning to business situations.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain approach and results.

Responsibilities

• Support underwriting reviews by organizing case information, identifying missing data, and summarizing risk considerations.
• Use Excel to clean, analyze, and visualize data that informs pricing inputs and portfolio insights.
• Contribute to a live caseload under guidance by tracking milestones, escalating issues, and maintaining momentum.
• Complete an internship project that improves a process, strengthens a decision framework, or enhances customer outcomes.
• Communicate progress and findings in a concise, professional way, through written updates, team discussions, and a final presentation.
