Job summary

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation invites applications for a Legal Intern - Summer 2027 in Chicago, IL.

The program runs from June 8 to August 11, 2027 and offers compensation at an hourly rate starting at $30/hour, with a hybrid work arrangement. Interns will support the Office of the General Counsel on tax-exempt, corporate, intellectual property, and regulatory matters; perform legal research; draft memoranda and Foundation policies; review contracts; and engage with staff

Qualifications

• Interest in nonprofit and tax-exempt organization law.
• Working knowledge of U.S. tax law is a plus, not required.
• Hybrid/in-person Chicago-based internship with in-office days.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Office of the General Counsel on tax-exempt, corporate, IP, anti-terrorist financing, international, and regulatory matters.
• Conduct legal research, draft memoranda and Foundation policies, review contracts and related documents.
• Interface with Foundation staff and gain exposure to philanthropy sector and grantmaking programs.
