Job summary

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is seeking a Legal Intern for Summer 2027 in Chicago, hybrid. The role reports to the Associate General Counsel and runs June 8 to August 11, 2027.

Compensation is a paid internship with an hourly rate starting at $30/hour. The internship offers exposure to tax-exempt and corporate law, IP, and regulatory matters within a philanthropic context. Interns should be enrolled in an accredited U.S.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled at an accredited U.S. law school through Fall 2027
• Have completed at least a year (ideally two) of law school
• In-office presence at least two days per week, Chicago-based staff expectations

Responsibilities

• Assist the Office of the General Counsel on matters related to tax-exempt law, corporate law, IP law, anti-terrorist financing laws, international law, and regulatory issues.
• Engage in legal research, draft memoranda and Foundation policies, draft grant agreements and other documents, review contracts, and interface with Foundation staff.
