Job summary

LiquidPiston, Inc. in Suffield, CT is seeking Design Engineer Interns for Spring 2027. You will work on real engine technology, taking ideas from concept to CAD models and prototypes in a small, high-energy team.

You will design rotary engine components using SolidWorks or equivalent, perform basic analyses, and participate in rapid prototyping and testing iterations. This internship offers ownership and opportunities to contribute to aerospace, defense, UAVs and hybrid-electric propulsion

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, rising junior/senior or graduate level.
• Strong SolidWorks proficiency for modeling, assemblies and drawings.
• Solid fundamentals in design, mechanics, thermodynamics and manufacturing.
• Hands-on mindset with prototyping, basic machining or 3D printing.
• Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support conceptual and detailed design of rotary engine components using SolidWorks or similar CAD tools.
• Create and modify 3D models, assemblies and drawings following ASME standards.
• Assist in design analysis with hand calculations and basic FEA, collaborate with simulation engineers.
• Participate in rapid prototyping: prepare files for additive manufacturing or CNC machining.
• Support design reviews and manufacturability assessments.
• Iterate designs based on test results and feedback from simulations.
• Contribute to fixture/tooling design for engine assembly or testing.
• Document designs and changes in reports or shared drives.
