Job summary

Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) seeks a Student Officer in Training, a paid, non-sworn pathway to becoming a Campus Police Officer. You will be hired into a temporary, full-time role and sponsored to attend the MPTC Police Academy in Marlborough, MA.

During the academy you will earn $25 per hour, with WPI paying for required training. Upon graduation you advance to the sworn Campus Police Officer starting rate under the WPI union contract, with a full-time position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Attend and complete the MPTC Recruit Officer Course and academy requirements.
• Assist with safety inspections and support dispatch and field training.
• Provide public safety services and referrals to campus community.
• Demonstrate ability to analyze emergencies and assist sworn officers.
• Perform traffic control and parking enforcement as needed.
