Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is seeking a Student Officer in Training in Worcester, MA. This entry-level paid pathway leads to a full-time Campus Police Officer role after successful police academy completion.

The incumbent will be hired into a temporary, full-time, non-sworn position during the academy and will be sponsored by WPI to attend the MPTC Police Academy in Marlborough, MA, earning $25 per hour during training.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
• Must be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
• Must be physically fit and able to pass the academy requirements.
• Must successfully complete interviews, background checks, and medical exams.

Responsibilities

• Attend and complete the MPTC Recruit Officer Course and required academy components.
• Complete WPI Police Department dispatch and field training programs.
• Assist campus safety staff with safety inspections and dispatch duties.
• Provide public safety services, escorts, and lockout assistance to university community.
• Report incidents, analyze emergency situations, and assist sworn officers in action planning.
• Perform traffic control and parking enforcement; adhere to university policies.
