Job summary

Arborist Trainee Internship at The Davey Tree Expert Company in Boston North Shore, MA. This on-site internship runs Spring–Summer 2027, with a 40–50 hour work week and hourly pay of $22–$23.

You will work in the field alongside experienced arborists to build skills in pruning, removal, cabling, and Plant Health Care, while learning business operations. Applicants are studying arboriculture or related fields and must have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Pursuing studies in Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Forestry or related discipline.
• Driver’s license required; CDL a plus.
• Enthusiasm for proper plant care and arboriculture.
• Love of the outdoors and willingness to learn.
• Demonstrated ability to report to work regularly and punctually.
• Collaboration and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Learn to be a tree doctor and work in the field alongside experienced Arborists, Climbers and Plant Health Care technicians.
• Perform tree pruning, removal, cabling, bracing and maintenance.
• Assist with tree and landscape installation.
• Safely operate equipment including chainsaws, chippers and other field tools.
• Provide Plant Health Care including soil care and integrated pest/disease management.
• Support daily operations of a Residential Tree Care office.
