Job summary

Westfield Specialty invites students to join its 2027 Summer Intern Program in Chicago, IL, for a ten‑week paid experience with the Actuary team. You will work on real projects, learn from senior leaders, and gain hands‑on actuarial exposure.

The program combines classroom and on‑the‑job training, with a formal mentor program and opportunities to present to senior leadership. Onsite four days a week, you will develop technical skills and professional networks in a fast‑moving insurance

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related quantitative field.
• Actuarial exams in progress or completed are preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with SQL, R, Python, Power BI, or other analytical tools is a plus.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with actuarial analyses supporting pricing initiatives.
• Gather, validate, and analyze large data sets using actuarial and statistical techniques.
• Support the development and maintenance of actuarial models, reports, and dashboards.
• Prepare summaries, presentations, and recommendations based on analytical findings.
• Assist in evaluating trends related to claims, premium, exposure, and profitability.
• Participate in data quality reviews and process improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with underwriting, finance, claims, and other business partners to support strategic decision‑making.
• Conduct research on industry trends, market conditions, and emerging risks.
• Complete special projects and ad hoc analyses as assigned.
