Qualifications

• Active RN license in California or a compact license at submission.
• Minimum 1 year of recent PACU or post-anesthesia care experience.
• Current ACLS, BLS and PALS certifications.
• Experience with Epic electronic health records.
• Ability to manage post-anesthesia recovery and provide safe patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures.
• Complete pre-operative assessments, medication reconciliation, patient education, and post-procedure evaluations.
• Monitor airway, circulation, neurologic status, vital signs, sedation levels, pain, and recovery milestones.
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, including dysrhythmias and respiratory issues.
• Administer medications, reversal agents, blood products, anticoagulants, insulin protocols, IV vasopressors, and analgesics as ordered.
• Manage arterial lines, chest tubes, ventilators, PICC lines, nerve blocks, PCA pumps, and wound vacs.
• Support procedural sedation, endoscopy recovery, and recovery from a broad range of surgical procedures.
• Provide discharge instructions and coordinate follow-up with patients and families.
• Float between pre-op and Phase I/II recovery areas as needed.

PACU Registered Nurse (RN) Travel Nurse Job – Petaluma, California

Join a collaborative perioperative nursing team as a PACU Registered Nurse in Petaluma, California. This on-site travel nursing assignment offers the opportunity to care for adolescent, adult, pediatric, and geriatric patients following anesthesia and surgical procedures. Located in the scenic North Bay near California’s renowned wine country, Petaluma offers a welcoming community, charming downtown, excellent dining, and convenient access to outdoor recreation.

• Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,280–$2,400
• Location: Petaluma, California
• Start Date: November 30, 2026
• Schedule: Five 8-hour day shifts per week
• Shift Hours: Variable day shift beginning at 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., or 11:00 a.m.; scheduled shift ends at 4:30 p.m. or according to the assigned start time
• Call: Potential overnight call from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.; weekend call may be scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, pediatric patients, and geriatric patients
• Daily Census: Approximately 15 patients
• Orientation: 40 hours
• Floating: May float to pre‑op, Phase I recovery, and Phase II recovery

PACU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license in California or a compact license in hand at submission
• At least 1 year of recent PACU or post‑anesthesia care experience
• Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
• Recent experience with Epic electronic health records
• Competency in Phase I and Phase II recovery, airway assessment, procedural sedation monitoring, dysrhythmia management, pain management, and medication administration
• Experience caring for patients following general, orthopedic, spine, vascular, gynecologic, urologic, ophthalmologic, plastics, and endoscopic procedures
• Ability to manage ventilated patients, arterial lines, chest tubes, IV vasopressors, nerve blocks, PCA pumps, and post‑epidural care
• Ability to meet call, weekend, holiday, floating, and scheduling requirements of the assignment
• Two professional references covering at least 1 year of experience within the past 3 years

PACU RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence‑based nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures
• Complete pre‑operative assessments, medication reconciliation, patient education, and post‑procedure evaluations
• Monitor airway, circulation, neurologic status, vital signs, sedation levels, pain, and recovery milestones
• Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition, including dysrhythmias, respiratory compromise, malignant hyperthermia, and other post‑anesthesia complications
• Administer and monitor medications, reversal agents, blood products, anticoagulants, insulin protocols, IV vasopressors, and analgesics as ordered
• Manage specialized equipment and therapies, including arterial lines, chest tubes, ventilators, PICC lines, nerve blocks, PCA pumps, and wound vacs
• Support procedural sedation, endoscopy recovery, and recovery from a broad range of surgical procedures
• Provide discharge instructions, follow‑up communication, and coordination of care with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team
• Float between pre‑op and Phase I and Phase II recovery areas as needed to support patient flow and team operations
