Job summary

St. Tammany Health System is seeking a patient billing specialist to respond to questions from patients and guarantors. The role requires strong communication and knowledge of billing processes.

The position operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and entails assisting with Medicare/Medicaid billing concepts and payer requirements. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years in healthcare-related customer service, be able to explain bills clearly, and comply with FDCPA

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 2+ years customer service experience, preferably in a healthcare related Business Office.
• Preferred knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care programs; including billing and authorization requirements.
• Preferred knowledge of payor payment methodologies and understanding of how patient liability amounts are determined.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Understanding of FDCPA strongly preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
• Must have 2 or more years Customer Service experience, preferably in a healthcare related Business Office
• Preferred knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care programs; including billing and authorization requirements
• Preferred knowledge of payor payment methodologies and have an understanding of how patient liability amounts are determined

• Understanding of Fair Debt and Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) strongly preferred
• Physical Demands: Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 20 pounds is required.
• Physical Effort required: Constant (67%-100%) - talking, hearing, seeing Frequently (34%-66%) - NONE Occasionally (1%-33%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing (stairs, ladders, poles, etc.), balancing, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling/feeling
