Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and visionary PACS Engineering Architect to lead the architecture, design, and migration efforts of our enterprise imaging systems. This role will play a critical part in the modernization of our imaging infrastructure, including Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), Vendor Neutral Archives (VNA), and associated clinical imaging workflows.

As a key technical leader, you will collaborate with IT, radiology, clinical departments, vendors, and leadership teams to design scalable, secure, and high-performance imaging solutions that support our health system's current and future needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the architecture and strategic design of enterprise PACS and VNA systems, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory compliance.
  2. Plan and execute complex PACS and VNA migrations, including data migration strategies, downtime minimization, and cutover processes.
  3. Design and document technical workflows for image acquisition, storage, distribution, and viewing across multi-site environments.
  4. Collaborate with radiologists, cardiologists, IT security, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  5. Evaluate and recommend best-of-breed imaging technologies, storage platforms, and integration methodologies (e.g., DICOM, HL7, FHIR, IHE profiles).
  6. Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance across imaging platforms.
  7. Develop and enforce best practices for system configuration, data integrity, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  8. Provide technical leadership in vendor selection, contract negotiations, and solution implementation.
  9. Serve as an escalation point for complex imaging-related issues and performance bottlenecks.
  10. Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies in medical imaging and informatics.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in PACS engineering and imaging architecture within a healthcare setting.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing large-scale PACS and VNA migrations.
  • Deep understanding of DICOM standards, imaging modalities, and image lifecycle management.
  • Experience with multiple PACS and VNA platforms (e.g., Sectra, Client, Fuji, IBM iConnect, Agfa, Hyland).
  • Familiarity with HL7, IHE integration profiles, and clinical workflow optimization.
  • Strong project management and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience with cloud-based imaging architecture (e.g., AWS, Azure for healthcare).
  • Vendor certification in PACS or VNA platforms.
  • Experience in enterprise imaging initiatives such as de-siloing departmental archives, non-DICOM image management, or integrating point-of-care imaging.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, FDA, Joint Commission).
