About Heritage Specialty Foods:

Our company is comprised of two local families and two generations who are joined together by the same mission of supporting our customers with naturally fresh, kettle cooked foods for retail and food service operations.

With over a decade of experience in fresh food manufacturing, we understand the intricate and delicate balance of taking a recipe and producing it on a grand scale while still maintaining the recipe’s integrity.

We take full advantage of the abundance of local ingredients available to us in Portland to create our soups, chilis, chowders, entrées, sauces, marinades, and puddings also including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options and are looking for someone who relates to our company culture to join the team!

Description:

Responsible for ensuring all packaging functions are completed accurately and on time. Set-up and operate packaging lines. Accountable for achieving established departmental goals; staff productivity, scheduling efficiencies and the oversight of equipment performance and downtime.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicates with Leads and other Supervisors and managers to understand development plans in place for the team and promote smooth flow from Tank’s to Packaging to shipping and deliver corrective action as necessary.
  • Communicates with Leads and other Supervisors to ensure breaks and lunches are rotated out in a timely manner.
  • Maintains effective communication with Supervisors and managers to ensure the efficiency of the daily production targets.
  • Monitors the daily production goals, and recognizes when production is not trending to plan. And pivot to meet production goals.
  • Manage the packaging crew: assigning tasks, communicating expectations, and evaluating results.
  • Reviews shift operation and makes decisions and implements actions relative to changes on shifts that may impact processing, procedures, personnel, equipment, and customer requirements.
  • Visually and manually inspect finished product to inspection to ensure accuracy and quality standards.
  • Check and correct any conditions which are not conducive to a safe, clean work place. Report any safety problems immediately.
  • Assure compliance with Safety, Lot tracking, QA, Allergen Awareness, and HACCP policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all paperwork, documents, and process data is filled out completely and accurately.
  • Create and prepare packaging materials for following shift.
  • Be the point person for all training in the department.
  • Ensures that all people in work group are adequately trained and are knowledgeable of department procedures.
  • Delegates assignments and monitors responsibilities of work groups to effectively the throughput, quality and safety of shift operation.
  • Prevent and troubleshoot equipment quickly and effectively for minimal downtime.
  • Participates with the Packaging Manager in decisions on employee hiring, termination, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of department employees.
  • Ability to operate, adjust, breakdown and reassemble departmental processing equipment.
  • Special projects throughout the year to streamline processes, increase yields, simplify tasks, and generate more lbs per hour.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Previous related experience in a packaging/manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Supervising and managing people for performance and productivity
  • Comfortable with communicating and giving feedback as needed to employees and management.
  • Demonstrates team management, delegation, issue resolution, coaching skills and ability to motivate others and act as a change agent.
  • Experience in a dynamic, flexible work environment where organization is a key factor in success.
  • Must be able to communicate expectations clearly.
  • Ability to unify a team in a high-volume, high-energy environment.
  • Communication skills that encourage an environment of openness and professionalism.
  • Understanding and aptitude for team member and peer development.
  • Ability to accept and act on feedback.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
