Job summary

Half Acre Beer Company in Chicago is seeking an entry-level Packaging Operator I to join the Packaging Department. The team works 4 x 10-hour days (Mon-Thu) with occasional 5 x 8 on Mondays, handling canning and kegging lines. The role is hands-on, with the shift spent standing, and requires strong teamwork and attention to detail.

Must be 21+ with a commitment to safety and quality. You will lift and move 25 lb. cases and operate pallet jack or forklift (certification provided).

Responsibilities

  • Unload and stack finished cases, lifting, twisting, and carrying.
  • Load packaging materials into equipment (cans, lids, trays, cartons, PakTechs).
  • Wash, fill, and band kegs.
  • Assist with operation and maintenance of packaging equipment.
  • Clear any conveyance jams during runs.
  • Set up workstations before each run and clean during/after runs.
  • Assist with changeovers on the canning line.
  • Operate electric pallet jack and forklift (certification/training provided).

Salary Range: $17.25 - $17.25 Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

The Packaging Department at Half Acre Beer Company works 4 x 10-hour days per week, typically Monday-Thursday (an occasional 5 x 8 hour Monday-Friday week as needed), and is on the lookout for motivated individuals to join the team. Packaging is a crucial step in the beer-making process. A properly packaged can or keg means that people will enjoy our beer the way we intended. You will be working on our canning and kegging lines. It is a very hands-on, physical job with the entirety of the shift standing. Packaging requires excellent communication and attention to detail, along with a teamwork mindset. Packaging Operator I is an entry-level packaging position and a great opportunity to gain experience in the Packaging Department. This position reports to the Packaging Manager.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Unloading and stacking finished cases which involves lifting, twisting, and carrying
  • Loading packaging materials into packaging equipment (e.g. cans, lids, trays, cartons, PakTechs)
  • Washing, filling, and banding kegs
  • Assisting with the operation and maintenance of packaging equipment
  • Clearing any conveyance jams during packaging runs
  • Setting up workstations before each run
  • Cleaning up workstations during and after each run
  • Assisting with changeovers on the canning line
  • Operation of electric pallet jack and forklift (certification and training provided)
Qualifications REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Must be 21+ years old

BENEFICIAL EXPERIENCE
  • Past packaging or manufacturing work preferred but not necessary
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift, carry, stack, and move 25 lb. can cases, and manipulate 60 and 165 lb. kegs
  • Must be able to handle repetitive motion tasks, including lifting, carrying, stacking, bending, stooping, reaching
  • Must be able to stand for most of the shift, except for meals and/or break periods
