Packaging Machine Operator
2nd Shift, 2:00pm-10:30pm
$18.00 - $19.50/hr
Job Description/Duties
The packaging machine operator is responsible for setting up and operating assigned packaging machines to pack an optimal number of quality packages of product.
Essential Functions
- Adhere to company human safety policies and procedures.
- Follow food safety, quality, and regulatory practices and procedures.
- Set up and operate packaging machines to ensure finished products meet all customer and regulatory requirements.
- Clean and sanitize equipment during changeovers between products.
- Inspect packaging equipment before start-up and changeovers.
- Take ownership of packaging line results.
- Maintain accurate and legible records and documentation.
- Ensure the efficient and safe operation of all equipment and personnel on the line.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and maintenance staff to optimize equipment performance.
- Assist other departments as needed and perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Preferably at least 1 year of experience as a packaging machine operator in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of manufacturing specifications and quality standards.
- Familiarity with HACCP, GMPs, allergens, and personal protective equipment.
Abilities
- Problem-solving skills for equipment and process issues in collaboration with maintenance.
- Ability to identify root causes and apply corrective actions diligently.
- Proficiency in reading and writing English; bilingual skills are a plus.
- Basic math skills and computer literacy.
Working Conditions
Fast-paced food packaging environment, possibly including weekend work and overtime, with exposure to varying temperatures, concrete floors, and noise levels exceeding 85 dB.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Lift up to 75 lbs periodically.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and climb ladders and stairs.
- Push/pull up to 2200 lbs of raw materials on pallets with a pallet jack.
- Reach, lift, and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs.
- Slide barrels weighing up to 600 lbs.
- Potential exposure to allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, milk, and eggs.
- Ability to wear PPE as required (hearing protection, face shield, safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
