Job summary

System One in East Durham, NY is seeking a Packaging Operator for a contract role onsite. Work hours are 7pm-7:30am on a 12.5‑hour 2/2/3 rotation, operating automated toothpaste packaging lines and handling materials. You will perform autonomous maintenance and document batch activity in SAP.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and manufacturing experience. Overtime may be required; health benefits and a 401(k) plan are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, every other weekend off.
• Basic computer skills (Data entry, email, Word and Excel).
• Manufacturing or Production environment experience preferred.
• Experience with equipment/machinery maintenance and changeovers preferred.
• Able to lift up to 55 pounds and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Operate state-of-the-art fully automated toothpaste packaging lines up to 450 tubes per minute.
• Handle packaging materials (cases of tubes, cartons, wrap, labels, caps, pallets) and finished goods.
• Maintain cleanliness of the area and equipment.
• Perform autonomous maintenance to keep lines producing at top performance.
• Assist maintenance technician on preventive maintenance activities.
• Conduct inventories of packaging materials and products.
• Perform transactions in SAP to manage materials from receipt to final product.
• Conduct frequent quality checks and document results.
• Document batch activity in the computerized system.
• Identify and implement process improvement opportunities
• Comply with all procedures, work instructions and GMPs.

Compensation: $26.95/hr

Work Model: Onsite

Hours: 7pm-7:30am - 12.5 hours, 2/2/3 rotation

Responsibilities

• Operate state‑of‑the‑art fully automated toothpaste packaging lines operating at speeds up to 450 tubes per minute
• Handle packaging materials (cases of tubes and cartons, bundles of shippers, rolls of labels and wrap, slip sheets, caps, corners, pallets, etc.) and finished goods
• Maintain cleanliness of the area and the equipment
• Perform autonomous maintenance activities to keep the lines producing at top performance
• Assist maintenance technician on preventive maintenance activities
• Conduct inventories of packaging materials and products
• Perform all activities while focusing on safety and compliance
• Perform transactions in our enterprise resource system (SAP) to manage materials from receipt to final product
• Perform frequent quality checks and accurately document the results
• Document batch activity on computerized system
• Identify and action process improvement
• Understand and comply with all pertinent procedures, work instructions, forms, batch documentation and good manufacturing practices
• Search for cost savings and waste reduction opportunities

Requirements

• Basic computer skills (Data entry, email, file access, Microsoft Word and Excel)
• Manufacturing or Production environment experience (preferred)
• Experience with equipment/machinery maintenance and changeovers (preferred)
• Able to effectively communicate and work with co‑workers, management, and other departments (preferred)
• Ability to routinely lift up to 55 pounds, stand, bend and walk for extended periods of time (preferred)
• Ability to work overtime to fulfill business need (preferred)
• Ability to operate industrial power lifts (pallet jacks and forklifts) (preferred)
• Confident in the use of basic math calculations, percentages, fractions, and decimal notation (preferred)
• Familiar with different measurement schemes (e.g. Kilograms vs pounds) (preferred)
