Job summary

Saputo Cheese USA, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Equipment Operator to join our 24/7 manufacturing team in Frederick, MD. You will safely operate case forming equipment, set up fiber and taping systems, follow SOPs, and help ensure accurate production records.

This role supports audits and adheres to GMP and food safety requirements. Starting at $23.34/hour with increases to $25.59, the position offers on-site work in a fast-paced dairy production environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Working understanding of food manufacturing acronyms (SQF, QA/QC, CQP, QAP, HACCP, SOP, 5S, GMP, etc.).
  • Strong math skills and ability to read and follow SOPs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Successful completion of background check.
  • Demonstrated work history and good attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate case forming equipment.
  • Set up, operate and replenish fiber, fiber gluer and/or taping equipment.
  • Follow SOPs in detail without deviation.
  • Set up case coding equipment and validate product case codes.
  • Verify and record accurate product case quantities.
  • Identify out-of-specification product conditions and communicate them.
  • Perform equipment adjustments and change-overs.
  • Operate lift truck safely and following safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate production records and documents.
  • Support internal and external audits and comply with GMP and Food Safety requirements.

How you will make contributions that matter...
  • Safe and efficient operation of case forming equipment.
  • Set-up, operate and replenish fiber, fiber gluer and/or taping equipment.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP's) in detail without deviation.
  • Set-up case coding equipment and validate product case codes in accordance with code specifications.
  • Verify and record accurate product case quantities.
  • Identify and effectively communicate any out-of-specification product conditions.
  • Follow the established notification protocol.
  • Perform routine equipment adjustments.
  • Safe operation of a lift truck.
  • Accurately and neatly complete production records and documents.
  • Perform equipment change-overs, clean-up operations and equipment set-up.
  • Perform environmental controls.
  • Perform product reclaim and rework operations in accordance with reclaim guidelines.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Follow all established occupational health and safety procedures.
  • Follow all established GMP's and Food Safety requirements.
  • Cross-train with other departments.
  • Perform good housekeeping within established housekeeping guidelines.
  • Comply with federal, state and local dairy food regulations.
  • Adhere to the Saputo Code of Ethics, actively apply the Saputo Company Values and Workplace Climate Policy.
  • Work together with co-workers and other department personnel.
  • Other duties as required by management.

Physical Demands

Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that includes, but not limited to, exposure to noise, changing temperatures (hot, wet, cold, and humid conditions), and production-related activities Ability to remain on your feet for the majority of the shift, including prolonged periods of standing and walking, as well as frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, and climbing stirs while navigating the production floor and manufacturing equipment Ability to maneuver safely throughout the facility and around operating machinery on a consistent basis throughout the workday Ability to work with chemicals while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) and following approved chemical handling and safety procedures Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds unassisted throughout the shift Shift flexibility is required. This is a hands-on role in a 24/7 manufacturing facility. Equipment Operators are assigned teams that support operation needs and may work day, swing, or night shifts, including weekends. Work schedules and shifts may change to support vacations, absences, plant downtime, audits, or other business needs Ability to work shift of up to 12 hours in duration while maintaining the physical demands of the position.

Starting Rate: $23.34/hour with increases up to $25.59
