Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Packaging Engineer in the PSLD to design and improve packaging for aftermarket parts. The role collaborates across suppliers, product groups, and cross-functional partners to deliver effective customer-ready packaging solutions.

Located in Morton, IL or Clayton, OH, this on-site role requires up to 10% domestic travel and a Monday–Friday schedule. You will drive packaging safety, quality, and cost optimization while supporting warehouse operations.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Internship, co-op, project, or hands-on experience in manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, or supply chain.
• Strong customer service mindset with ability to build relationships with internal and external customers.
• Experience with suppliers, vendors, or cross-functional teams through coursework or work experience.
• Interest in aftermarket parts distribution, logistics, and supply chain operations.
• Foundational understanding of packaging principles, materials, or processes.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement packaging solutions that protect aftermarket parts throughout storage, transportation, and distribution.
• Collaborate with suppliers, procurement, product groups, and cross-functional partners to deliver effective packaging solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on packaging safety, quality, sustainability, and cost optimization.
• Provide onsite support to packaging and warehouse operations, resolving packaging issues.
• Audit supplier packaging solutions to ensure compliance with standards and specs.
• Develop corrective actions for packaging nonconformances and damage investigations.
• Communicate audit findings and corrective actions to suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
• Evaluate part characteristics and distribution data to determine optimal packaging methods.
• Monitor packaging performance and investigate quality issues to improve protection and customer satisfaction.
• Create and improve packaging standards, specifications, and best practices.
• Provide customer service and technical support for packaging questions from stakeholders worldwide.
• Review drawings and specifications to determine packaging requirements.
