Job summary

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of regulatory and quality requirements related to medical devices.

A Day in the Life

The Packaging Engineering function supports the design, validation, implementation, and continuous improvement of sterile and non-sterile packaging systems for medical devices. The team partners with research and development, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, supply chain, and operations teams to develop packaging solutions that maintain product integrity, support manufacturing efficiency, and comply with applicable regulatory and quality requirements. Responsibilities include packaging design, validation, documentation management, cost reduction initiatives, material qualifications, and packaging process support.

This position is based in Lafayette, Colorado. The role follows a flexible work arrangement with an on-site presence expected four days per week and one remote workday per week. No travel is required.

The Packaging Engineer II supports the design, validation, implementation, and maintenance of packaging systems for sterile and non-sterile medical devices. This role partners with cross-functional teams to execute packaging changes, support manufacturing and research initiatives, lead packaging validation activities, and maintain packaging documentation to ensure compliance, product performance, and operational effectiveness.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Support the design, development, and implementation of sterile and non-sterile packaging systems for new and existing products.

  • Prepare and execute packaging validation protocols, testing activities, and technical reports to support packaging changes and product requirements.

  • Create, revise, and maintain packaging specifications, drawings, procedures, and controlled documentation.

  • Partner with manufacturing teams to provide technical support for packaging systems, packaging equipment, and packaging-related process improvements.

  • Evaluate and support packaging material qualifications, supplier changes, and packaging change initiatives.

  • Identify and support packaging cost reduction opportunities while maintaining compliance and product performance requirements.

  • Lead or participate in cross-functional reviews to investigate and resolve packaging-related issues affecting products or manufacturing operations.

  • Support research and development projects, artwork updates, pallet configuration development, and other packaging engineering activities across multiple facilities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of engineering experience, or an advanced degree and 0+ years of engineering experience.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$80,000.00 - $120,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
