HCLTech in Fremont, CA, Austin, TX, and Sparks, NV seeks a Sr. Packaging Engineer to advance world-class packaging designs for automation equipment.

You will lead end-to-end projects and coordinate design, manufacturing, and sourcing to drive technical execution across Vehicle and Energy Product platforms. The role requires CAD and technical drawing skills with GD&T, experience with machining and injection molding, and knowledge of materials like aluminum, steel and composites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging, Industrial Design, or equivalent work experience.
• Knowledge of CAD and technical drawings, including GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Experience with machining, welding, injection molding or similar processes.
• Strong materials knowledge (aluminum, steel, composites, foam, etc.).
• Experience with packaging testing and validation.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with quality and accuracy.
• Effective communication and teamwork; travel up to 30%.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for Customer Vehicle and Energy platforms.
• Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, NPI, and Operations to gather and develop packaging requirements.
• Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to enable efficient delivery of parts while maintaining quality.
• Provide design direction and development plans for protective packaging containers, dunnage and shipping racks—domestic and international.
• Apply CAD and technical drawing techniques, including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Monitor KPIs and collaborate with Packaging Design Engineers to improve packaging standards.
• Drive expendable to returnable projects; manage budgets, risks and change management; assist vendor selection/management.

What to Expect

The customer is seeking a highly motivated Packaging Engineer to join our Packaging team in developing world-class designs for automation equipment. You will play a key role on the team and will be the one who brings it all together to drive technical execution of packaging projects across several Vehicle and Energy Product platforms. This is a very unique opportunity to engage with all facets of customer development from technology and design through component delivery and final manufacturing. The successful candidate must have the ability to work quickly and efficiently with a high level of precision, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented, and not be afraid to re-define tradition.

What You’ll Do

• Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for Customer Vehicle and Energy platforms
• Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction, and Operations partners to gather and develop packaging requirements
• Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to drive projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without sacrificing part quality or manufacturability
• Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage and unique shipping racks – domestic and international
• Apply industrial design techniques of CAD, technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
• Monitor KPI’s and work with Packaging Design Engineers to develop world-class packaging standards and continue to improve upon them
• Drive expendable to returnable projects and participate in sustainability initiatives; Manage project budgets, risks, and change management; Assist in vendor selection and vendor management

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging, Industrial Design, or equivalent work experience with evidence of exceptional ability
• Working knowledge of CAD, and technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, welding, injection molding etc.
• Strong knowledge in a large variety of materials (aluminum, steel, composites, foam, etc.); Experience with designing to standards such as ASTM, Mil-Spec, etc.
• Strong understanding of packaging testing and validation; Capable of managing multiple priorities at once without sacrificing quality of results
• Proficient at-risk management and communication; Team player with strong process and continuous improvement mindset
• Travel up to 30% required

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range Minimum: $80.00 per hour

Pay Range Maximum: $86.00 per hour

Compensation and Benefits

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies.
