Tesla is seeking a Packaging Engineer to join our packaging team, developing world-class designs for automation equipment. You will drive packaging projects across several Vehicle and Energy Product platforms, interfacing with Design, Manufacturing, NPI, and Operations to meet requirements.
You will lead end-to-end packaging efforts, apply CAD and GD&T, and ensure manufacturability, with a focus on sustainability and efficient delivery of parts globally.

Seeking a highly motivated Packaging Engineer to join our Packaging team in developing world-class designs for automation equipment. You will play a key role on the team and will be the one who brings it all together to drive technical execution of packaging projects across several Vehicle and Energy Product platforms.
This is a very unique opportunity to engage with all facets of Tesla development, from technology and design through component delivery and final manufacturing.
The successful candidate must have the ability to work quickly and efficiently with a high level of precision, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail-oriented, and not afraid to re-define tradition.
What You'll Do
Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects for Tesla Vehicle and Energy platforms.
Interface with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction, and Operations partners to gather and develop packaging requirements.
Partner with Supply Chain and Logistics to drive projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without sacrificing part quality or manufacturability.
Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage, and unique shipping racks for domestic and international shipments.
Apply industrial design techniques of CAD, technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
Monitor KPIs and work with Packaging Design Engineers to develop world-class packaging standards and continuously improve them.
Drive expendable-to-returnable packaging projects and participate in sustainability initiatives.
Manage project budgets, risks, and change management.
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging, Industrial Design, or equivalent work experience with evidence of exceptional ability.
Working knowledge of CAD and technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, welding, and injection molding.
Strong knowledge of a wide variety of materials (aluminum, steel, composites, foam, etc.).
Experience designing to standards such as ASTM and Mil-Spec.
Strong understanding of packaging testing and validation. Capable of Managing multiple priorities at once without sacrificing quality of results.
Proficient at risk-management and communication; Team Player with strong process and continuous improvement mindset.
