Job summary

I3 INFOTEK INC. is seeking an experienced Packaging Engineer in Fremont, CA to lead end-to-end packaging design and deployment for Vehicle and Energy platforms.

You will collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, NPI, Operations, Supply Chain, and Logistics to define requirements and deliver protective packaging solutions for domestic and international transportation. The role requires strong CAD skills, GD&T knowledge, and experience with packaging testing and validation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
  • Experience designing engineered packaging solutions for manufacturing or automotive industries.
  • Strong CAD skills and ability to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Hands-on GD&T, datum structures, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Knowledge of packaging materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with packaging testing and validation methods.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end packaging engineering projects for vehicle and energy products.
  • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, NPI, Operations, Supply Chain, and Logistics teams to define packaging requirements.
  • Design and develop protective packaging including returnable containers, expendable packaging, dunnage, pallets, and custom shipping racks for domestic and international transportation.
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed packaging designs and technical drawings.
  • Apply engineering principles such as GD&T, datum structures, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Ensure packaging solutions meet quality, cost, manufacturability, and logistics requirements.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives by converting expendable packaging to returnable systems.
  • Develop and monitor packaging KPIs while continuously improving packaging standards.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, risks, engineering changes, and vendor relationships.
  • Support packaging testing, validation, and qualification activities to ensure product protection during transportation and storage.
  • Travel up to 30% as required to support suppliers, manufacturing sites, and project activities.

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Packaging Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of engineered packaging solutions for Vehicle and Energy platforms. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and supply chain teams to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable packaging solutions that ensure product protection, manufacturing efficiency, and optimized transportation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end packaging engineering projects for Tesla Vehicle and Energy products.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Introduction (NPI), Operations, Supply Chain, and Logistics teams to define packaging requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience designing engineered packaging solutions for manufacturing or automotive industries.
  • Strong knowledge of CAD software and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • Hands-on experience with GD&T, datum structures, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, welding, fabrication, injection molding, and assembly.
  • Knowledge of packaging materials such as steel, aluminum, composites, plastics, foam, corrugated materials, and wood.
  • Experience designing packaging to ASTM, Mil-Spec, or similar engineering standards.
  • Knowledge of packaging testing and validation methods.
  • Strong project management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in automotive, electric vehicle, aerospace, or advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Knowledge of returnable packaging systems and supply chain optimization.
  • Familiarity with sustainability initiatives and packaging cost reduction strategies.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with Lean Manufacturing knowledge.
