Position Summary
The Transportation Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of the PACE KC transportation department, ensuring the safe, efficient, and person-centered transport of participants to and from the PACE Center, medical appointments, and other destinations. This role involves direct supervision of drivers, oversight of routing and scheduling, fleet maintenance coordination, and close collaboration with the interdisciplinary team (IDT). The Transportation Manager must demonstrate a thorough understanding of elder care, regulatory compliance, and transportation operations, with at least one year of experience working with older adults.
Primary Responsibilities
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise transportation staff, including drivers and support personnel.
- Assist in daily transportation scheduling and dispatch in collaboration with the Transportation Coordinator.
- Review transportation schedules for accuracy and efficiency.
- Conduct quarterly safety and driver meetings.
- Participate in required PACE meetings (IDT, family, quality, training).
- Maintain relationships with participants, caregivers, and staff; handle grievances.
- Monitor driver performance; conduct reviews and coaching.
- Keep organized records of transportation logs, vehicle maintenance, and participant notes.
- Ensure driver compliance with policies and procedures.
- Serve as liaison for operational concerns.
- Manage fleet, including ADA vehicles, ensuring safety and compliance.
- Manage transportation data and reports.
- Use transportation management software (e.g., FileMaker).
- Update participant demographic information promptly.
- Provide operational coverage and support during emergencies and staff shortages.
- Be available for after-hours support and occasional overnight travel.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum one year of experience working with older adults.
- Experience in senior care, healthcare, or human services valued.
- Experience in vehicle scheduling, dispatching, or routing is a plus.
- Knowledge of ADA standards and safety practices.
- At least three years in transportation/logistics, with two in management preferred.
- Valid CDL with passenger endorsement required.
- Leadership experience in managing teams.
- Familiarity with the Kansas City area.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transportation software.
- Must pass background checks, physical exam, drug tests, and immunizations.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull 150 lbs.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts; overnight travel may be required.
