Position: Special Education Teacher

Position type: Full Time

Position location (School): Memphis Street Academy

Department: Special Education Department

Reports to: Special Education Director

Employment status: Exempt

Employment duration: 10 months

Position Summary:

A Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; progress monitors and assesses student progress against instructional objectives and individualized goals; holds the title of IEP Case Manager for assigned students; and co-teaches with general education teachers.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Provides scientifically research-based instruction to students with special needs in small group settings, utilizing data-driven instruction.
  2. Provides specialized instruction to meet the needs of students with disabilities in the general education classroom through co-teaching.
  3. Progress monitors and assesses student progress against instructional objectives and individualized goals.
  4. Manages assigned students' IEPs, adhering to state-mandated procedures, and conducts annual and other necessary meetings.
  5. Communicates regularly with parents and IEP team members, providing updates on student progress.
  6. Documents all communication with families in SIS.
  7. Participates in relevant professional development for grade level or content area.
  8. Develops and maintains positive relationships with students and families.
  9. Actively participates in Caring School Community (CSC) and other school-wide initiatives.
  10. Adheres to deadlines and assignments at individual and departmental levels.
