Position: Special Education Teacher

Position type: Full Time

Position location (School): Memphis Street Academy Charter School

Department: Special Education Department

Reports to: Special Education Director

Employment status: Exempt

Employment duration: 10 months

Position Summary:

A Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; monitors and assesses student progress against instructional objectives and individualized goals; holds the title of IEP Case Manager for assigned students; and co-teaches with the general education teacher.

Major Responsibilities

  1. Provide scientific research-based instruction to students with special needs in small group settings using data-driven instruction.
  2. Co-teach with general education teachers to provide specialized instruction tailored to students with disabilities within the general education classroom.
  3. Monitor and assess student progress against instructional objectives and individualized goals.
  4. Manage assigned students' IEPs, follow state-mandated procedures (including invitations, procedural safeguards, IEP drafts, NoReps), and conduct annual IEP meetings or other necessary meetings.
  5. Communicate regularly with parents and IEP team members, providing updates and comments on student progress.
  6. Document all communication with families in the SIS.
  7. Attend relevant professional development sessions.
  8. Develop and maintain positive relationships with students and families.
  9. Participate actively in Caring School Community (CSC).
  10. Engage in professional development relevant to grade level and content areas.
  11. Adhere to all deadlines, assignments, and departmental responsibilities.
  12. Participate in school-wide initiatives such as PBIS and others.
