Job summary

Universal Shield Insurance Group in Scottsdale, AZ, is seeking a Commercial P&C Underwriter to advance our growth across admitted and surplus lines. You will analyze new and renewal business, apply forms and endorsements, and guide agents with underwriting expertise.

This role requires at least two years of Commercial P&C underwriting experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and a willingness to pursue CPCU or CIC.

Qualifications

• At least two years of Commercial P&C underwriting experience.
• Pursuit of CPCU, CIC, or other applicable designations with willingness to complete preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks on time.

Responsibilities

• Objectively analyze new and renewal business to accept, price, modify, or reject within delegated authority for both Admitted and Surplus Lines.
• Effectively apply forms, endorsements, and deductibles to mitigate risk.
• Develop strong business relationships with key agents and provide underwriting guidance.
• Maintain a profitable book of business within authority using sound underwriting judgment.
• Continue personal industry skills development to meet company goals of quality and timeliness.
• Maintain knowledge of current insurance market trends, conditions, competitive intelligence, and product innovations.
• Interact collaboratively with colleagues, agents, and customers professionally.

Key Responsibilities:

• Objectively analyze diverse information on new and renewal business to accept, price, modify, or reject business within delegated authority level for both Admitted and Surplus Lines Products.
• Effectively apply forms, endorsements, and deductibles to help mitigate risk.
• Develop strong business relationships with key agents and provide underwriting guidance to the agents.
• Maintain a profitable book of business within assigned levels of authority by using sound underwriting judgment and technical skills.
• Continue personal industry skills and knowledge development to meet the company goals of quality and timeliness.
• Maintain knowledge of current insurance market trends, conditions, competitive intelligence, and product and service innovations.
• Ability to interact collaboratively and collegially with colleagues, agents, and customers in a professional manner.

Job Requirements:

• At least two years of Commercial P&C underwriting insurance experience is required (experience with Commercial Property, General Liability, Inland Marine, BOP/CPP preferred).
• Pursuit of CPCU, CIC, or other applicable designations with a willingness to complete preferred but not required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Ability to Communicate effectively with internal and external contacts - strong customer service focus.
• Strong organizational and time management skills required.
• Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks on time.
