Job summary

Job description

PDS 2 / Power Delivery Substation

Mesa seeks a P&C Engineering Specialist I for our Power Delivery Substation engineering design team based in Chattanooga, TN. The successful candidate has 4‑5 years of experience in P&C substation design in 69 kV to 500 kV substations and will work with a team to complete substation P&C design projects that meet client standards and practices. Responsibilities include maintaining quality and efficiency while developing deliverables such as single‑line diagrams, AC & DC elementary/schematic diagrams, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, cable lists, and bills of material.

Education / Experience / Licensure
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, or related, from an ABET‑accredited college or university is required.
  • Minimum of 4‑5 years of progressively responsible experience in 69 kV to 500 kV substation P&C design is required.
  • PE is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • On a task basis, responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs and supporting documentation such as calculations.
  • Coordinates and prepares calculations, specifications, reports, design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.
  • Interfaces with other disciplines on multi‑discipline projects as required.
  • Responsible for adhering to project scope, schedule, and budget on all assigned projects.
  • Performs other duties assigned by Engineering Supervisor or Engineering Manager.
  • Establish, promote, and assure quality on all project work.
  • Work with Engineering Supervisor or Engineering Manager to follow up on construction issues with field engineers to help resolve problems and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Attend group meetings with staff as required.
  • Incorporate safe work practices into all activities.
  • Work with Engineering Supervisor or Engineering Manager and team to assist with project execution, work processes, and procedures to help continually improve quality, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Use strong verbal and written communication skills with team members and clients.
  • Use interpersonal skills to build relationships with team members and clients.
  • Possess knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
  • Estimate and assist in the preparation of bid packages.
  • Attend scoping meetings as requested for projects.
  • Mentor other designers/engineers in the group to increase knowledge of P&C substation design.
  • Check/review other personnel work for accuracy and adherence to client/national standards.
  • Work with Engineering Supervisor or Engineering Manager to identify potential areas of engineering process and/or procedure improvements.
