Job summary

Sonesta International Hotels Corporation invites applications for an Oyster Shucker at our New Orleans properties. You will accurately prepare oysters, maintain sanitary work areas, and rotate stock while following all safety and quality standards.

You will report to kitchen supervisors, manage multiple stations, and assist in closing duties. A culinary background and ServSafe certification are preferred to help ensure guest satisfaction in a high-volume oyster bar.

Qualifications

• 3 years of oyster bar experience preferred.
• Valid ServSafe Food Handler Certificate required.
• Valid ServSafe Food Handler Certificate required.
• Ability to perform all basic and intermediate cooking skills.
• Able to work multiple stations in the oyster bar.

Responsibilities

• Reports to kitchen supervisors and kitchen manager.
• Assumes 100% responsibility for quality of products served.
• Knows and complies with standard portion sizes, quality standards, policies and procedures.
• Handles stores and rotates all products properly.
• Maintains a clean and sanitary work station area, including oyster bar, knives, gloves, sinks, and refrigeration equipment.
• Opens and closes oyster bar area properly and follows checklist.
• Operates Micros to manage customers.
• Other duties as assigned.
• May work in other areas of the hotel as needed.

What this role is all about

The Oyster Shucker accurately and efficiently prepares oysters for consumption. Perform other duties in the areas while maintaining a clean, safe and sanitary work area.

Qualifications and Skills

• Strong communication skills
• Appropriate professional appearance and demeanor
• 3 years of previous oyster bar experience preferred, preferably high volume oyster bars
• Culinary degree or related hotel experience is preferred
• Ability to perform all basic and intermediate cooking skills
• Able to work multiple stations in the oyster bar
• Micros experience preferred
• Valid ServSafe Food Handler Certificate required
