MAAS Companies is seeking an Owner's Authorized Representative to manage complex California school projects from preconstruction through closeout. You will oversee budgets, schedules, and contractor activities, coordinating with districts, design teams, and public agencies to ensure timely, compliant delivery.
The role requires extensive experience in public/educational construction, a relevant degree (or CCM substitute), and a track record of leading multi-million dollar projects.
The Work LAUSD's Project Execution group delivers one of the largest public school construction programs in the country, under the oversight of DSA, the Division of the State Architect, the state office that approves public school construction. As Owner's Authorized Representative I, you represent the District on assigned school projects and manage each one through preconstruction, bid and award, construction, and closeout. You manage the project budget and schedule to the District's standards and review the budget every month so it reflects the project's real status. You manage the contractor's daily activities, review construction schedules and submittals, coordinate responses to the contractor's requests for clarification, review substitution requests, and negotiate change order proposals to a fair and reasonable price. You coordinate with public agencies on off-site work, with the design team, and with District and project staff. You administer the District's agreements with architects, monitor payments to contractors and consultants, coordinate delivery of furniture, fixtures, and equipment, and see each project through DSA certification and financial closeout, reporting status and progress to upper management along the way.
This is a full-time, in-person position. The District has 2 openings.
Why MAAS MAAS has spent nearly 40 years earning the trust of 50+ educational institutions across California, managing over $10B in projects. That track record means the work here is stable, funded, and consequential. You are not chasing the next contract. As a MAAS employee, you are also an owner. The company is 100% employee-owned through an ESOP, a retirement benefit provided at no cost to you, on top of your salary. MAAS is a profitable, well-run organization and our share price has more than doubled since the plan's inception, with continued growth year over year. Your ownership stake builds the longer you stay, and ESOP participants nationally tend to accumulate 2.5x more in retirement savings than employees at non-ESOP companies. In an industry not known for prioritizing culture, 96% of MAAS employees say it is a great place to work, and 100% say people genuinely care about each other.
