In this role, Department Managers oversee the team responsible for receiving products and delivering store orders safely and efficiently to serve our stores. They collaborate with Human Resources and employees to foster a profitable, compliant, fair, and harassment-free work environment, embodying our core values daily.
What will I do?
- Lead with our values, support others, and ensure Wegmans remains a great place to work for all.
- Manage and develop a team of employees, engage in meaningful conversations, build trusted relationships, and provide resources, feedback, and development opportunities for success.
- Ensure excellent service throughout the supply chain; hold Team Leaders accountable for timely delivery; seek and respond to feedback urgently.
- Partner with internal departments such as Distribution Operations, Transportation, Quality Assurance, and Stores to ensure operational excellence.
- Collaborate with peers and leadership to meet business goals and communicate performance metrics.
- Ensure food safety and quality by following safety initiatives and cold chain processes, keeping products fresh.
- Use distribution knowledge to recommend waste reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Develop programs for efficient product delivery and resolve escalated issues.
- Prioritize departmental tasks daily, ensuring service, delivery, accuracy, and quality goals are met.
- Partner with the Distribution Area Manager to identify trends, resolve issues, and set goals.
- Stay updated on industry practices and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Monitor safety concerns to reduce accidents and claims.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years in Distribution and/or Manufacturing environment
- 3+ years of leadership managing large teams
- Ability to lead in high-pressure, fast-paced settings
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience managing inventory
- Strong organizational and process-oriented skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Warehouse Management Systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of food safety procedures
- Understanding of warehouse, supply chain, and store order systems
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, or related field
