Job summary

BluePearl NE Portland is seeking an Overnight Veterinary Assistant for the ER/ICU. This full-time role covers Sundays through Tuesdays plus every other Saturday, 7:00 pm–5:00 am with shift differentials. You’ll work in a teaching hospital environment with a collaborative team of DVMs across ER/ICU, Critical Care, and Surgery.

Qualifications

• Strong patient care skills and curiosity to learn more.
• Experience in Urgent Care or ER settings preferred.
• Enjoys teaching and being taught in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrates teamwork and adaptability during busy shifts.

Responsibilities

• Triage patients and collect histories.
• Monitor vitals for incoming and hospitalized patients.
• Assist with CPR and emergency interventions as needed.
• Support diagnostics, treatments and IV placement (where trained).
• Communicate updates to clients and coordinate with the care team.
• Maintain a clean, organized ER/ICU workspace and handoff effectively.

What you’ll do:

• Triage patients + collect histories

• Jump into CPR when needed
• Support diagnostics + treatments
• Place IVCs and learn advanced lines (Central/PICC )

• Assist with phone triage for incoming ER cases
• Help maintain a clean, organized space (team effort always)
• Work alongside a highly skilled team delivering advanced care
