Shawnee Animal Clinic in Portsmouth, OH, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant for an overnight 7pm-7am shift. You will assist with triage, sample collection, lab analysis, radiographs, anesthesia monitoring, and nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year veterinary assistant experience preferred.
• Compassionate, calm, team player with multi-tasking ability and strong communication.
• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficiency in sample collection, medical histories, lab tests, radiographs; anesthesia monitoring is a bonus.
• Self-starter who wants to grow knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

• Overnight shift from 7pm to 7am performing duties.
• Restrain pets safely and triage incoming patients.
• Collect and analyze lab samples, perform radiographs and assist imaging.
• Provide nursing care to medical and hospitalized cases and administer medications.
• Communicate treatment plans with clients and assist in surgical preparation.

Shawnee Animal Clinic is a growing, family-oriented practice with wonderful clients. We currently have eight doctors of veterinary medicine and over sixty support staff between our hospital, grooming facility, and boarding and training facility. Our team is like our family, and we are looking for individuals who are self-starters, have a willingness to learn, and can multi-task in a fast-paced veterinary hospital.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

This is an overnight position 7pm-7am

Pet restraint, triage incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients and surgical preparation and assistance.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

• An experienced Veterinary Assistantwith a minimum of 1-year experience preferred.

• Must be able to properly restrain pets.
• Proficient in sample collection, obtaining medical histories, processing laboratory tests and radiographs, andanesthesia monitoring are a bonus!
• Self-starter with the desire to continue to advance your knowledge and skillset.
