Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Oak Creek, WI seeks an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to triage cases and support DVMs with care and client communication. You will perform diagnostics, set up ICU/inpatient care, discharge patients, and maintain thorough nursing rounds with vital sign checks, medication administration, and phlebotomy.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, assist with anesthesia monitoring, and stay current with CPR guidelines while contributing to a patient-centered team culture.

Qualifications

• Assist DVM with triage and procedures in a fast-paced emergency setting.
• Provide nursing care and monitor patient status during rounds.
• Handle diagnostics, ICU/inpatient setup, discharges and client communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand medications, side effects and monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exams and record vitals (heart rate, mucous membranes, temperature, resp rate).
• Assist with anesthesia/monitoring equipment for ASA I or II cases.
• Remain current on RECOVER CPR guidelines and assist as assigned.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Oak Creek, WI is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department. Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork, etc), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As An Emergency Veterinary Assistant, You Will

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
