Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a Shelter Monitor to oversee overnight shelter operations, ensuring safety, security, and residents’ well-being. The role supports a positive living environment by enforcing policies, providing guidance, and assisting residents with access to community resources.

Responsibilities include supervising residents, coordinating meals, handling documentation, and maintaining professional boundaries while upholding confidentiality and mission guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• 1-2 years of experience in human services or working with diverse populations.
• Completion of required training within designated timeframes.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to prepare meals for groups of 30-40 people.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the security and safety of residents, facilities, and grounds.
• Supervise residents to ensure order, harmony, and compliance with shelter rules.
• Share information on available community resources with residents.
• Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and residents.
• Assign and oversee resident cleaning chores.
• Reinforce shelter policies fairly, without discrimination or favoritism.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and contact supervisors as needed.
• Maintain professional boundaries with residents.
• Prepare meals as needed.
• Support The Salvation Army's mission, policies, and confidentiality standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
