Job summary

Interstate Waste Services, Inc. is seeking an Overnight Scale Operator for our Brooklyn, NY facility. You will weigh in/out solid waste vehicles, process payments, verify loads, and help keep the scale house safe and orderly.

This overnight role requires at least a high school diploma, 2 years in a warehouse setting, and strong computer skills. Fluency in English is required, bilingual Spanish is a plus, and experience with scales is preferred.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED completed; higher education is a plus.
• Minimum 2 years of warehouse environment experience.
• Experience in sanitation industry preferred and scales experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of general computer skills.
• Fluency in English required; Spanish bilingual is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first point of contact for drivers, customers, or other traffic at the scale house.
• Accurately calculate and process payments, weights and other measurements.
• Verify incoming loads do not contain any unnecessary or inappropriate material.
• Various administrative tasks including regular filing, data entry and reporting.
• Provide general upkeep of the scale house.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Essential Job Summary:

The Overnight Scale Operator will be mainly responsible for weighing in and weight out solid waste vehicles from both company drivers and third-party vendors/haulers. They will oversee receiving payments, checking loads, and always ensuring the safety of the landfill and scale.

• This Scale Operator will be based out of our Brooklyn Stanley Ave location.
• This shift will be an overnight position.
• Required to use motor coordination such as typing, machine operating, etc. throughout the greater part of the workday.
• Daily exposure to physical environment including odors, loud noises, weather elements, etc.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• High school/GED education completed; higher education is a plus.
• Minimum 2 years of warehouse environment experience.
• Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with scales is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of general computer skills.
• Knowledgeable in the safe operation of all garage tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, hoists, and jacking equipment.
• Consistently capable of working independently to safely analyze and resolve problems.
• Fluency in English required, Spanish bilingual is a plus.
