Job summary

St. Anne’s Family Services is seeking an Overnight Residential Counselor to monitor, supervise, and guide residents in a therapeutic environment within the STRTP program in Los Angeles.

You will work 11:00pm–8:00am Wednesday–Saturday with a flexible Thursday 11:00pm–7:00am schedule, in a 9/80 framework. Responsibilities include maintaining safety and confidentiality, supporting residents and their children, and coordinating with professional staff to address needs and progress.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or Psychology or related field.
  • Valid Child Development Teaching Permit.
  • Completed 12 semester units in ECE/AD/FKCE/Psychology with at least 100 hours of youth-related on-the-job experience.
  • Valid Alcohol/Drug Counselor certificate with at least 100 hours of youth experience.
  • Vocational training certificate/credential showing practical instruction in vocational skills with 100 hours of youth-related experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Relevant life experience in child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer/mentor/caregiver, or related experience as determined by the Dept.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision, protection, and care for residents individually and in groups.
  • Assist each resident in group work and in handling individual problems.
  • Administer discipline and set behavioral limits.
  • Document residents’ progress and identify needs for professional services; inform staff.
  • Ensure safety of residents during transportation to appointments as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality per agency, licensing, HIPAA and regulations.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work
Child Development Teaching Permit
12 semester units in Early Childhood Education / Adolescent Development / Foster and Kinship Care Education / Psychology (with 100 hours on-the-job youth experience)
Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor certificate (with 100 hours youth experience)
Vocational training certificate/credential for instructing children in vocational skills (with 100 hours youth experience)
California Driver’s License
Lives experience in child welfare/mental health/juvenile justice systems

The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.About the Program: Residential Treatment Program (STRTP): This short-term residential therapeutic program provides services to pregnant, parenting, and at-risk young women (and their children) ages 13-18 in the foster care and/or juvenile justice system. These youth are typically placed by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) or Probation Department.Role Summary: Responsible for monitoring, supervising, and guiding the residents in their daily routine. Provides a healthy, therapeutic and safe environment for residents and their children in their direct care.Schedule: (9/80 work schedule)Wednesday - Saturday; 11:00pm to 8:00am, with a flex Thursday 11:00pm to 7:00amLocation: 155 N Occidental Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026Duties and Responsibilities:Provide supervision, protection, and care of residents individually and in groups at all time.Provide assistance to each resident in working with a group and in handling individual problems.Administer discipline and setting of limits for behavior.Document residents’ progress; identify possible need for professional services; communicate such findings to professional staff.Ensure safety of residents while transporting to and from appointments as needed.Maintain confidentiality as required by St. Anne’s, licensing, HIPAA, and other regulatory agencies.QualificationsMust meet one of the following:Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or related degreeHave obtained a valid Child Development Teaching Permit.Have completed 12 semester units of Early Childhood Education, Adolescent Development, Foster and Kinship Care Education, or Psychology and have completed at least 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with youth.Have a valid certificate as an Alcohol Counselor, Drug Counselor or Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and have completed at least 100 hours of on-the-job experience working with youth.Have a valid vocational training certificate, credential, or documentation demonstrating that the individual is a trade journeyperson who instructs children in vocational skills and have at least 100 hours of experience working with youth as a mentor, athletic coach, teacher, vocational coach, tutor, counselor, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.Previously been employed as a full-time staff or served as a volunteer at a group home, short-term residential therapeutic program, or substance abuse treatment program for at least one year.Have relevant life experience in the child welfare, mental health or juvenile justice systems as a consumer, mentor, or caregiver, or life experience with children who have experienced high levels of trauma, or other relevant experience as determined by the department.Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.St. Anne's Family Services is an equal opportunity employer and encourages candidates from all backgrounds to apply!
