Job summary

Quincy Medical Group in Illinois is seeking a Polysomnographic Technician or Trainee to support sleep studies under supervision. You will prepare patients, operate equipment, monitor studies, and ensure a safe, comfortable experience.

Qualifications

• CPR certification required.
• Polysomnographic Technician candidates must meet one of: successful completion of a polysomnography program of at least one year through a state-licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility; a minimum of six months of experience as a Polysomnographic Trainee with documented proficiency in required competencies; or eligibility for the RPSGT exam according to AASM guidelines within one year of employment.
• Trainee candidates should demonstrate the ability and commitment to develop the technical and patient-care skills necessary to perform polysomnographic testing through structured training and competency development. Strong attention to detail, communication, and patient care skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for sleep testing by explaining procedures, applying monitoring equipment, and helping patients feel comfortable throughout their study.
• Prepare, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot polysomnographic equipment to support accurate data collection.
• Collect and monitor sleep study data, recognizing changes in study quality and making appropriate adjustments within demonstrated competency.
• Monitor patient condition throughout testing and implement appropriate interventions, including CPAP, BiPAP, and oxygen administration, according to established protocols and level of training.
• Recognize and score sleep stages and clinical events, including respiratory and cardiac events, limb movements, and arousals.
• Accurately document patient observations, testing information, interventions, and study data.
• Perform routine equipment care, cleaning, and maintenance.
• Complete required training, competencies, and continuing education to support professional development in polysomnography.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support Sleep Center operations.
