Job summary

Quincy Medical Group is seeking a Polysomnographic Technician or Trainee to help perform sleep studies and ensure patient comfort during overnight testing. Under supervision, you will prepare patients, operate specialized equipment, monitor studies, and document data across comprehensive sleep assessments.

Open to experienced sleep technicians and trainees; role emphasizes safety, quality data collection, and progressive competency development with on-site training and support.

Qualifications

  • CPR certification required.
  • Polysomnographic Technician candidates must meet one of: a polysomnography program of at least one year through a state-licensed/nationally accredited facility; at least six months as a Polysomnographic Trainee with documented proficiency; or eligibility for the RPSGT exam within one year of employment.
  • Trainee candidates should demonstrate ability and commitment to develop the skills necessary to perform polysomnographic testing through structured training and competency development. Strong attention to detail, communication, and patient care skills. Ability to learn equipment, testing protocols, and clinical procedures. Ability to work independently as competencies are achieved while recognizing when assistance is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for sleep testing by explaining procedures, applying monitoring equipment, and helping patients feel comfortable throughout their study.
  • Prepare, calibrate, operate, and troubleshoot polysomnographic equipment to support accurate data collection.
  • Collect and monitor sleep study data, recognizing changes in study quality and making appropriate adjustments within demonstrated competency.
  • Monitor patient condition throughout testing and implement appropriate interventions, including CPAP, BiPAP, and oxygen administration, according to established protocols and level of training.
  • Recognize and score sleep stages and clinical events, including respiratory and cardiac events, limb movements, and arousals.
  • Accurately document patient observations, testing information, interventions, and study data.
  • Perform routine equipment care, cleaning, and maintenance.
  • Complete required training, competencies, and continuing education to support professional development in polysomnography.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Sleep Center operations.

Job description

About the Role

As a Polysomnographic Technician or Trainee at Quincy Medical Group, you will help perform comprehensive sleep studies used to identify and evaluate sleep disorders. This opportunity is open to experienced sleep technicians as well as individuals developing their skills in polysomnography through hands-on training. Working under the general supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), clinical director, or designee, you will prepare patients for testing, operate specialized equipment, monitor sleep studies, and provide a safe and comfortable patient experience. Trainees will receive guidance and progressively take on responsibilities as required competencies are demonstrated.

Schedule & Work Environment

Primarily three 12-hour overnight shifts per week, 6:30 PM – 6:30 AM, scheduled Sunday through Friday based on department needs. This role involves direct patient care, overnight sleep testing, continuous monitoring, and operation of specialized diagnostic equipment.

Polysomnographic Technician candidates must meet one of the following: successful completion of a polysomnography program of at least one year through a state-licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility; a minimum of six months of experience as a Polysomnographic Trainee with documented proficiency in required competencies; or eligibility for the RPSGT exam according to AASM guidelines within one year of employment.

Trainee candidates should demonstrate the ability and commitment to develop the technical and patient-care skills necessary to perform polysomnographic testing through structured training and competency development. Strong attention to detail, communication, and patient care skills. Ability to learn specialized equipment, testing protocols, and clinical procedures. Ability to work independently as competencies are achieved while recognizing when assistance or escalation is needed.

Compensation

The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $21.60 - $32.40 per hour for Polysomnographic Trainee, or $23.81 - $35.72 per hour for Polysomnographic Technologist determined by position level, experience, education, skills, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
