Job summary

AtlantiCare is seeking a Pharmacist to ensure accurate distribution of medications and manage pharmaceutical inventories within a hospital setting. You will verify orders, assess for interactions, and provide drug information to clinicians and patients while supervising Pharmacy Technicians and supporting medication safety.

The role requires a New Jersey Pharmacist license and a Doctor of Pharmacy or PharmD (or BS in Pharmacy).

Qualifications

• Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree.
• Current New Jersey State license as a Registered Pharmacist required.
• Two years experience preferred; hospital pharmacist experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and timely distribution of medications and other pharmaceutical supplies.
• Interpret, evaluate, and verify medication orders for interactions and appropriateness.
• Manage inventories, maintain secure storage, and supervise Pharmacy Technicians.
• Participate in clinical programs and patient safety initiatives.
• Provide drug information to clinicians and patients and support medication safety.

The Pharmacist ensures accurate and timely distribution of medications and other pharmaceutical supplies according to established procedures and standards, in support of high quality patient care. The Pharmacist interprets, evaluates and verifies medication orders accurately assessing for drug-drug, drug-allergy and drug-disease state interactions. The Pharmacist provides drug information to clinicians and patients. It is the responsibility of the Pharmacist to maintain accurate and complete records on all patient profiles and controlled drug substances as required by law. The Pharmacist properly manages pharmaceutical inventories and maintains emergency drug supplies, automated dispensing machines and general medication security on the nursing units. This position directs and verifies the Pharmacy Technician’s work. Pharmacists will be responsible for maintaining competency and participating in various clinical programs such as Anticoagulation Management, Pharmacokinetic Monitoring, Adverse Drug Event Monitoring, patient care rounding, pharmacotherapy optimization and general medication safety. This position supports organizational goals and values by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork, respect and cooperation. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Requires the ability to stand approximately 60% of the time and requires occasional reaching. The department specific Assessment and Evaluation Tool lists the essential functions of this position.

This position reports to department leadership and supervises incumbents as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Doctor of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Current New Jersey State license as a Registered Pharmacist required. ACLS Preferred, CPR Preferred for Hospital Pharmacist.

EXPERIENCE

Two years experience preferred. Two years hospital experience preferred for Hospital Pharmacist. Demonstrates an in-depth understanding of work processes. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be assessed and evaluated for this position within 90 days from date of hire.
