Job Overview

Supervise night accounting and general hotel operations to ensure the maintenance of financial controls, compliance with standards and regulations, customer satisfaction, and protection of the guests, staff, and assets. This position is responsible for supervising night operations and may recommend and implement procedural and safety changes.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise the night accounting employees and act as a work leader to other night employees; interview, recommend hiring, schedule, train, develop, empower, coach, and counsel; recommend and conduct performance reviews; resolve problems; provide open communication; and recommend discipline and termination as appropriate.
  2. Implement company (Franchisor) programs, supervise the daily operations of the night accounting staff, and oversee the Front Desk to ensure compliance with all financial controls and SOPs, providing an optimum level of quality service and hospitality to hotel guests.
  3. Supervise the balancing, reconciliation, and closing of various daily accounts; prepare daily statements to provide accurate, timely information to management while ensuring proper controls are maintained.
  4. Maintain the computerized accounting system through daily and weekly backups and periodic rebuilds to ensure accurate and smooth operations.
  5. Respond promptly to customer issues, complaints, and problems to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and quality service.
  6. Maintain preparedness and implement emergency procedures when appropriate to protect hotel guests, staff, and assets.
  7. Prepare reports and communications for the Controller and other Hotel Executive Committee members regarding night issues and other pertinent information regarding night operations.

Qualifications

Education/Formal Training: One to two years of post-high school education.

Experience: One to two years of Night Audit supervisory experience or a related position with this company or other organizations.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and hospitality practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of hotel and company policies and procedures; ability to determine appropriate actions based on these guidelines.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze current activities and information, involving readily available data, leading to logical conclusions and recommendations.
  • Decision-making skills based on general policies and procedures.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with management, employees, and guests; good telephone etiquette.
  • Excellent hearing and vision for viewing CRT screens and receiving calls.
  • Strong speech and literacy skills for reading folios and accounts.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting and carrying files or papers up to 25 lbs.; minimal bending and kneeling.
  • Mobility to move between offices and hotel facilities, especially during emergencies.
  • Minimal climbing or driving may be required.
