Job summary

Animal Care Centers of NYC is seeking an Overnight Licensed Veterinary Technician to support the on-call veterinarian and manage critical overnight cases in our Queens shelter. You will perform exams, administer medications, obtain samples, and help coordinate emergency care for hospitalized animals.

The role requires NYS licensure, the ability to lift 50 lbs, and readiness to work overnight shifts in a busy open-admission shelter environment.

Qualifications

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology or foreign equivalent recognized by NYS.
• Licensure in NYS to practice veterinary technology.
• Eligibility for euthanasia technician certification.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs and stand for prolonged periods.

Responsibilities

• Triage overnight cases and liaise with on-call veterinarian for treatment plan.
• Administer drugs and vaccines by all routes as directed.
• Perform LVT examinations in SOAP format as needed.
• Interpret clinical information and think critically to act swiftly.
• Obtain diagnostics (radiographs, bloodwork, urine sampling) as ordered.
• Record drug activity and maintain logs per ACC policy.
• Provide mentorship to overnight team and ensure quality medical care.
