Job summary

ACC is a nonprofit open-admission animal shelter in NYC dedicated to ending animal homelessness. We are seeking full-time Licensed Veterinary Technicians to support medical and surgical care within the shelter’s veterinary team.

Ideal candidates hold NYS licensure, an accredited veterinary technology degree, and have the strength to lift up to 50 lbs. Extensive training and ongoing education are provided, with opportunities to work across ACC locations as needed.

Qualifications

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology, or foreign equivalent recognized by NYS.
• Licensure in NYS to practice veterinary technology.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs and stand for prolonged periods.

Responsibilities

• Administer drugs and vaccines as directed by the staff veterinarian.
• Perform LVT examinations in SOAP format as needed.
• Interpret clinical information and think critically to act swiftly and accordingly.
• Handle, restrain and triage all animals entering shelter.
• Regularly perform peripheral blood sampling and IV catheter placement.
• Assist with all aspects of surgery – pre, intra, and postoperatively including anesthesia.
• Document medical findings, medications and treatments in medical records.
