Job summary

Animal Care Centers of NYC, the city’s only open-admission animal shelter, operates 24/7 for emergency intakes and remote veterinary oversight. The overnight Licensed Veterinary Technician will support the on-call doctor, manage hospitalized patients, perform diagnostics, administer medications, and help ensure timely, high‑quality care for all animals in the shelter.

The role requires NYS licensure, the ability to handle heavy lifting, and readiness to participate in on‑site euthanasia

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician in NYS.
• Eligibility for euthanasia technician certification.
• Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Triage overnight cases and liaise with the on-call veterinarian for treatment plans.
• Record medical history and support the doctor remotely.
• Administer medications and vaccines as directed by the veterinarian.
• Perform LVT examinations in SOAP format and interpret clinical information.
• Collect samples and obtain basic laboratory tests.
• Assist in necropsy and document drug activity and DEA logs.
• Mentor overnight team and ensure high-quality medical care.
